Ange Postecoglou will manage Nottingham Forest, succeeding the dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno departed the City Ground late on Monday, after 21 months and three seasons of games.
Postecoglou is back in management after being fired by Tottenham three months ago, after a poor Premier League season in which they placed 17th.
But the 60-year-old Australian coach helped Spurs win the Europa League, ending their long wait for a trophy.
Evangelos Marinakis, the forest owner, stated: “We’re hiring a coach with a history of winning trophies.”
“His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”
Forest are currently in 10th place in the Premier League standings after the first three games.
West Ham beat Nuno’s team 3-0 before the September international break.
In December 2023, the 51-year-old Portuguese coach replaced Steve Cooper at Forest and helped them stay in the top division.
He took the club to seventh in the Premier League last term, their best placement since 1994-95, allowing them to compete in Europe for the first time in thirty years.
Nonetheless, Nuno’s future was in doubt for fourteen days after he announced his relationship with Marinakis had soured, and there were also rumors of a falling-out with Forest’s global sporting director Edu.
“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies,” Marinakis said.
“Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”
Nuno’s exit has reportedly surprised Forest’s players, SPORTSTRIBUNE understands.
A number of them are on international duty, and they will return later this week.
Yet, the news circulated, with some players getting the information from others on the team.
Forest will play Arsenal on Saturday, which is Postecoglou’s debut game.
He becomes the eighth permanent manager since Marinakis took over in May 2017.
