Nottingham Forest fires Sean Dyche amid relegation fears

Nottingham Forest has dismissed head coach Sean Dyche after 114 days in charge, adding to a chaotic season marked by several previous managerial switches at the City Ground.

The decision comes after Wednesday’s 0-0 tie with Wolves, who are at the bottom of the league. This result leaves Forest three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games left.

The club briefly confirmed Dyche’s exit, expressing gratitude for his and his staff’s service while stating no further remarks would follow.

Dyche, 54, was hired in October with a contract lasting until 2027, taking over from Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou had been in the role for 39 days, having succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo. The Forest team is about to name their fourth permanent manager for the 2025-26 season.

Dyche’s arrival coincided with Forest being 18th, with only one win in their previous eight matches. After losing his first match 2-0 against Bournemouth, he improved the team’s performance. They secured four wins and one draw in the next seven league games, moving the club out of the bottom three.

Nonetheless, inconsistency surfaced again. Forest’s four-game losing streak halted their progress, but they then went on a four-match unbeaten run, including a 2-1 win at West Ham and a draw with the league leaders, Arsenal.

There was some encouragement from progress in Europe. Forest secured a spot in the knockout stages by finishing 13th in the Europa League group stage and will compete against Fenerbahce in a two-leg match for a place in the round of 16. They have been eliminated from all domestic cup competitions.
