Newcastle defeats Arsenal to reach Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United is one step closer to winning their first major trophy in 56 years after defeating Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
With a 2-0 lead from the first leg, Eddie Howe’s side completed the semi-final, earning a place in the Wembley final against Liverpool or Tottenham. A win there would break their long trophy drought, last successful in the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Newcastle began strongly, only for an Isak goal to be disallowed for offside before Murphy scored from a rebound after Isak’s shot struck the post in the 19th minute.
Arsenal’s best chance to win the semi-final, a shot by Martin Odegaard that hit the post with only the keeper to beat, was missed seconds before the opposing team scored.
Newcastle’s decisive goal at 52 minutes came amidst the fervent home support and following a costly mistake by Arsenal’s David Raya.
Raya looked for Declan Rice, who Fabian Schar was marking. He dispossessed Rice, setting an easy goal for Anthony Gordon and sending Newcastle back to Wembley.
Meanwhile, the Geordie faithfully aimed to overcome their final EFL Cup defeat against Manchester United two years ago and win their first domestic title since the 1955 FA Cup.
