AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders has joined Manchester City on a five-year contract for an initial £46.5m.
Pep Guardiola’s summer signings now total four, with the latest addition being a Netherlands international, alongside Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, and Rayan Cherki.
Twenty-six-year-old Reijnders’ signing ensures his eligibility for the Club World Cup in America this month; his debut could be on June 18th against Wydad FC.
“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said. “City is one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players, and outstanding facilities.
“I aim to contribute to Manchester City’s continued success under Pep Guardiola, building on their impressive trophy haul.”
Despite 23 caps for the Netherlands, the coach benched the midfielder during Tuesday’s 8-0 victory over Malta.
Last season, he played 54 matches across all competitions for Milan, scoring 15 goals and earning Serie A’s midfielder of the season award.
To improve on their third-place finish last season, Guardiola will use Reijnders to strengthen his midfield now that de Bruyne has left.
