Man City hire Liverpool’s Pepijn Lijnders as assistant coach

Pep Guardiola has added former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders to Manchester City’s coaching staff.
City appointed James French, a former Liverpool employee, as their new set-piece coach.
A new duo has replaced Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens, Guardiola’s former assistants who left the club after last season.
Ljinders, who served on Klopp and Rodgers’ coaching staffs at Anfield on two occasions, now joins Guardiola’s.

He first joined Liverpool in 2014 at 42 under Rodgers, then assisted Klopp from 2015 as Klopp’s nine-year reign as Premier League champion began.
The Dutch coach’s 2018 move to Eredivisie side NEC briefly interrupted his Anfield tenure. Ljinders rejoined Liverpool after NEC released him at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Ljinders and Klopp both left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. His next role, managing Red Bull Salzburg (a Red Bull GmbH team for whom Klopp works), ended in December 2024.
