Liverpool has agreed to a British record £116.5m transfer fee to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The total cost is £116.5m (€137.5m), including a base fee of £100m and a potential add-ons of £16.5m.
Though comfortably exceeding Liverpool’s record, performance-based add-ons could make this transfer a potential British record, potentially exceeding the £115m Chelsea spent on Caicedo in 2023. Liverpool’s previous record signing was striker Darwin Nunez in 2022.
Liverpool can now negotiate terms with Wirtz, who is keen to sign and won’t quibble over personal terms.
They have scheduled the player’s medical for next week upon his return from vacation.
Liverpool and some other top European clubs had been tracking Wirtz, a high-performing Bundesliga player from the previous season, for the player’s sake.

Wirtz chose Liverpool over Bayern Munich after Manchester City withdrew due to escalating costs, completing his transfer to Merseyside.
Leverkusen’s 22-year-old, a lifelong player for the club, contributed 10 goals Leverkusen’ssts in 25 starts, helping them achieve a second-place finish after winning the league and cup double the previous year.
Germany’s Wirtz netted a goal in their 2-1 Nations League semi-final loss to Portugal last Wednesday.
Following his former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, Wirtz joined in a £29.5m deal after Frimpong’s transfer from the Netherlands.
Milos Kerkez, Bournemouth’s left-back, is another target for Arne Slot’s team.
Although FC Bournemouth, the Premier League champions, have made contact, they have yet to make an offer while assessing potential deal conditions.
