Liverpool matched Manchester United’s record of 20 top-flight titles by winning the Premier League.
Liverpool stylishly clinched the title with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham at a celebratory Anfield.
Arne Slot’s team has been a frontrunner throughout his first season in England. They won the league after just two losses across 34 games and broke Manchester City’s four-year title streak.
Not many predicted Liverpool’s continued success after Jurgen Klopp left a year ago, but Slot has exceeded expectations, equaling Klopp’s league title wins.
Winning the Premier League in his first season, the 46-year-old becomes the first Dutch manager and the fifth overall to achieve this feat (after Mourinho, Ancelotti, Pellegrini, and Conte).
When questioned about the ease of his title win, Slot credited his players, staff, and the groundwork laid by Klopp and Lijnders.
“The team’s culture, work ethic, and output were all exceptional. We all knew that. We started off really well and it maybe helped a bit that (Manchester) City had a difficult spell, which they hadn’t had in five years.”
“While initial hopes were for a top-four Champions League finish, our team’s performance this season far exceeded those expectations.”
Liverpool’s dominant victory secured their first title in five years, as Manchester City underperformed and Arsenal’s injury problems resulted in a third consecutive second-place finish.
The newly crowned champions could still exceed City’s 91-point total from last season, which would place them among the greats. Achieving 90 points in the Premier League is a rare feat, accomplished by only 14 teams, including Liverpool thrice under Klopp.
“It’s special, and we don’t take it for granted,” Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports during the celebrations. It’s amazing.”
“A lot of emotions before the game, during the whole week, but we got the job done and we (are) truly deserved champions of England.
“(Liverpool is) the most beautiful club in the world, and we deserve all this. Let’s enjoy the next few weeks and let it sink in.”
