Sky Sports News exclusively reports that Brentford promoted Keith Andrews, their set-piece coach, to head coach on a three-year deal, succeeding Thomas Frank.
The club will announce the appointment later today; his Premier League debut, live on Sky Sports against Nottingham Forest, is set for Sunday, August 17th.
Although Brentford is close to filling those positions, the club has yet to confirm Andrews’ backroom staff appointments. However, several members followed Frank to Tottenham after his seven-year tenure ended when he became Spurs’ head coach.
Though Brentford contacted many prominent managers, they trust Andrews to maintain consistency, emulating Frank’s success as a top manager.
Andrews’ inexperience concerns supporters, yet the club sees a greater risk in appointing someone from outside.
A respected member of Brentford’s coaching staff since last summer, Andrew has a strong understanding of the club’s players and systems.
Brentford’s 2018 head coach search concluded with the internal promotion of Frank, who served as Dean Smith’s assistant.
Witnessing Andrew’s impact firsthand, they were impressed by his contributions to training, matches, and team dynamics.
While renowned as Brentford’s set-piece expert, Andrews’ coaching expertise is far more comprehensive. His coaching career includes stints at MK Dons and Sheffield United, as well as assistant roles with the Republic of Ireland U21 and senior teams.
The ex-midfielder played 16 years, representing Wolverhampton Wanderers, MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers, and Bolton Wanderers, and earning 35 Republic of Ireland caps.
Andrews was instantly identified as a leading candidate by Sky Sports News after Frank left.
