Carlos Queiroz said the right conditions were never truly in place before he stepped down as head coach of the Black Stars.
In his farewell statement, the Portuguese coach admitted that obstacles hampered his mission to strengthen Ghana’s squad, though he had arrived eager to nurture local talent and shape the team’s future.
“I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent. Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he said.
After his contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ended, Queiroz said he was leaving his second stint with “respect, gratitude and pride”.
He thanked his technical team and others who supported their work, especially during preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
“I thank my technical staff and everyone who supported us, particularly since the start of our work, preparing for the 2026 World Cup,” he said.
Queiroz gave special thanks to the players, praised their dedication to representing Ghana, and asked for ongoing public support.
“Above all, I pay tribute to the players of the Black Stars. Thank you to all of them who represented Ghana with courage, commitment and pride. You fought for your country and carried the hopes of millions,” he said.
He left after Ghana lost their first two Group C matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
After the 4-2 loss to The Gambia, Queiroz said the GFA would decide his future.
