Ghana captain Jordan Ayew made his first appearance for Sheffield United on Sunday, coming off the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship.
Ayew came on for Ben Brereton Díaz in the second half as manager Chris Wilder looked to change the game for Sheffield United.
The Ghanaian forward tried to make an impact right away, showing some promise and sending one of his first shots just wide.
Wolves grabbed the win in the last minute of regular time after Sheffield United had matched them for much of the game and seemed likely to earn a draw.
Wolves substitute Raúl Jiménez scored the winning goal in the 90th minute. Kieran Trippier created space at the back post and set up Doyle, whose shot was deflected to Jiménez. He finished from close range.
The result was a setback for United, especially after their strong performance against Blackburn Rovers earlier in the week.
Manager Chris Wilder made four changes to the team that beat Blackburn, bringing McGuinness, Arblaster, Bamford, and Phillips into the starting lineup.
Ayew started the match on the bench and came on in the second half.
His debut came just days after he joined Sheffield United on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Leicester City.
The 35-year-old Ghana international adds plenty of experience to Sheffield United, having played for clubs like Marseille, Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace, and Leicester City.
Ayew also captained Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing in all four of the Black Stars’ matches.
The forward will be looking to build on his debut and earn a spot in the starting lineup as Sheffield United continue their Championship season.
