Ussif rejects blame over African Games irregularities

Former Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has rejected claims that he should be blamed for the financial irregularities identified by the Auditor-General in connection with the 2023 African Games.

The former minister responded to reports linking him to alleged breaches in procurement and expenditure during Ghana’s hosting of the event. Ussif insisted he cannot be personally held responsible for the irregularities in the Auditor-General’s report.

He stated that necessary procedures were followed throughout the planning and staging of the Games in Accra earlier this year. He explained that managing the projects involved several institutions and officials beyond the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The Auditor-General’s findings reportedly highlighted multiple financial and administrative concerns related to spending, procurement practices, and project execution for the African Games.

Ussif’s response comes amid increasing public scrutiny over transparency and accountability surrounding the organization of the event. Authorities are expected to continue reviewing the report amid mounting pressure for greater clarity on the concerns raised.
