Stephen Appiah’s support helped me survive tough injury spell – Kyereh

Ghana midfielder Daniel Kofi Kyereh has shared how Stephen Appiah’s support helped him get through a major challenge in his career.

Kyereh got his first call-up to the national team in 2021, but a serious ACL injury the next year kept him out for almost three years.

Now 28, he has recently returned to playing and is featuring for SC Freiburg II as he works to regain full fitness.

In an interview with JoySports, Kyereh said Appiah’s support came at a key moment during his recovery.

Appiah, who had similar knee injuries in his own career, reached out with encouragement that Kyereh says made a real difference.

“While I was in rehab, he called me. I was surprised and honored. He’s a great person, and his words really motivated me to come back stronger,” he said.

Kyereh is now working to rebuild his form and could be in the running for a spot in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as he continues to recover.
