Fenerbahce signs Kante after deal resurrection

Fenerbahce announced the acquisition of French midfielder N’Golo Kante from Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Pro League club.

On Tuesday, Fenerbahce released a statement pointing fingers at Al-Ittihad for the collapsed transfer, dashing the French midfielder’s dreams of wearing the Turkish club’s colors.

Fenerbahce claimed that Al-Ittihad failed to submit the crucial paperwork needed to seal the deal, a move that would have brought Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri into their ranks.

By Wednesday, Fenerbahce declared the saga resolved, revealing that Kante, the former Chelsea star, had officially joined their squad after 2.5 years in Saudi Arabia.

At 34, Kante made the switch to Al-Ittihad from Chelsea in 2023, having already lifted the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup trophies with the London side.

Beforedonning Chelsea blues in 2016, he famously captained Leicester City to their historic Premier League triumph the season before.

En-Nesyri, 28, steps in to fill the void left by Karim Benzema, the former Real Madrid ace who recently moved to Al-Hilal, a Saudi Pro League rival.
