To address recent controversies over officiating and betting claims, former GFA Vice President George Afriyie is calling for an independent entity to manage the Ghana Premier League.
Afriyie told Asempa FM that government investment in the league requires a professional, transparent management structure.
“With the government now investing in our league, I believe the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) must set up a different body to run the league.
“The Premier League must be independent. It should be managed by an autonomous body to ensure professionalism and transparency.”
Afriyie proposed separating the league from the GFA secretariat so it would report directly to the GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo.
“The league needs independence from the Football Association’s secretariat, with its autonomous body reporting directly to General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo”.
The call comes after GFA President Kurt Okraku pledged in 2019 that an independent entity would eventually manage the Premier League. The GFA is awaiting the implementation of recommendations submitted by a committee chaired by Togbe Afede XIV.
