Morocco won the Under-20 World Cup trophy on Sunday night, defeating Argentina 2-0 to finish off an incredible run in Chile.
This result was Morocco’s first World Cup victory in history, across all age groups.
Morocco’s Yassir Zabiri, of FC Famalicao, scored two first-half goals, giving his team a 2-0 lead at the break, which was enough to secure the win.
Morocco defeated South Korea, the United States, and France, then Argentina, to win the final. It was the first African country to win the U20 title since 2009, following Ghana.
Argentina lost for the first time in the tournament, hoping for its seventh victory.
Argentina made it to the final without their star players, Claudio Echeverri and Franco Mastantuono.
The national team has secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Argentina’s senior team, the defending World Cup champion, has qualified for the tournament next summer.
