Sports Minister praises President Mahama for securing financial support for Premier League clubs

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has lauded President John Mahama for providing financial backing to the 18 Ghana Premier League teams.
The Ghana Football Association and Adesa Production Limited announced a deal that gave each Premier League GHS1 million before the 2025/26 season.
The package was made possible by Adams, who said Mahama stepped in directly at the cabinet to get public and private funding.
“Your Excellency, that vision, met with dedication and investment, is yielding results,” Adams said during a visit of GoldStars and Kotoko at the Jubilee House.
“Today, the clubs have started the premiership with each premier club receiving a million Ghana cedis to start with.”
Mahama also offered a $100,000 financial package to Asante Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars, as well as support, to help them in the CAF inter-club competitions this season, giving each club $50,000.
Bibiani GoldStars lost to JS Kabylie 2-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round in the CAF Champions League.
The government showed support for Premier League clubs ahead of the 2025/26 GPL season when Asante Kotoko secured a thrilling 4-3 victory against Kwara United in the first leg of the Confederation Cup.
