The Black Satellites’ coach, Desmond Ofei, considers it good fortune that his team wasn’t placed in Group B for the 2025 U-20 AFCON, suggesting they can dictate their path to success.
Ghana is in Group A with host Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, DR Congo, and one more country from UNIFFAC.
Fortunately for Ghana, they will not face some of Africa’s giants, namely, Egypt, Morocco, and Nigeria, all in Group B.
In a post-draw interview, Ofei expressed satisfaction with the result for his team.
“We’re happy that we’re not in group B because that’s a very interesting group. I feel like we’re in a position where we can control the narrative of this tournament from our perspective,” he said on Joy News Prime Sports.
“The only downside is that we’re in a group of five and we would have to play one extra game compared to the other groups but in all I think we’re in a good position to manage the situation and the narrative quite well.”
Thirteen teams will compete in this year’s tournament, starting April 26 and ending May 18.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 will welcome its four semi-finalists later in the year.
