What is Stephen Appiah’s role on the Black Stars Management Committee? Queries from journalist Jerome Otchere

Ghanaian sports analyst Jerome Otchere has raised concerns about Stephen Appiah’s role within the restructured Black Stars Management Committee.
Otchere, a Citi Sports commentator, questioned Appiah’s inclusion in his January 20, 2025 broadcast, suggesting it was a strategic move to appease Ghanaians who want Appiah in an official position.
“Consider Stephen Appiah’s role; he’ll supposedly connect the technical staff, or perhaps the FA, with the players. What is the coach’s role, then? What are the responsibilities of a team manager? What are the technical team’s responsibilities?” he asked.
“Doesn’t the technical team structure as a component that accommodates player issues and is able to deal with player issues?
“Yes, he’s an ex-footballer and a good one at that. So he comes down to manage player relations. Precisely, what is the job of the coach? The Black Stars coach is our premium national team. If the coach cannot maintain good relations with players, how will he coach them?” Ochere said.
Appiah will liaise with players, assisting Chairman Dr. Randy Abbey in his new role as Vice Chairman.
Appiah is serving a second term on the committee, his first being in 2022.
