The practice of paying per diem allowances to national team management committees while neglecting players, notably women and junior male teams, has drawn criticism from Kofi Adams, the incoming Sports and Recreation Minister.
Women’s and junior men’s teams in Ghana have consistently reported allowance delays, contrasting with the timely payments received by management.
Critics claim that these inequalities in motivation and performance undermine international players who make sacrifices for their country.
“I don’t think the national team management committees should pay themselves per diem when the players have not received theirs,” Adams told Kasapa FM.
He emphasized prioritizing others over self-interest, stating that the system is unfair and damages team morale.
Amid rising scrutiny of Ghana’s sports administration, Adams commented as stakeholders push for equitable athlete treatment through reforms.
