Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk doesn’t think Trent Alexander-Arnold’s subpar performance against Manchester United stemmed from speculation about his future.
Before Manchester United scored at Anfield on Sunday, Alexander-Arnold made a mistake in giving the ball away and had a difficult game in the 2-2 Premier League draw, eventually substituting for Conor Bradley after 86 minutes.
Before the game, reports emerged that Liverpool turned down Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Alexander-Arnold in January amid rising speculation about his future.
Similar to Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, England International’s contract expires this summer, allowing him to negotiate with overseas teams.
When asked if the speculation had affected Alexander-Arnold’s performance, Van Dijk replied, “No.” I am okay with it.
“Trent has his own people around him, including his family, and we are there as well.
“He wants to perform in the best way possible like we all do. That is the main focus.”
In October, Van Dijk confirmed contract extension talks had begun; however, there’s been no further news on his contract status following the United match.
Despite recently stating his situation is far from resolved, Salah posted a social media photo with Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk from Sunday’s Anfield match.
