Napoli have secured the signing of Romelu Lukaku, a Belgian striker, from Chelsea in a £30m transfer.
Chelsea has successfully offloaded two players they wanted out of the club: Romelu Lukaku moved to Napoli in a €30m deal, and Kepa Arrizabalaga was sent on loan to Bournemouth for the season.
Three years ago, Lukaku returned to Chelsea for a club-record fee of £97.5m. However, he has been on loan in Italy for the past two seasons. He has been reunited with Antonio Conte at Napoli, with whom he had a successful stint at Internazionale from 2019 to 2021.
Lukaku’s successful performance under Conte in 2021, scoring 24 league goals, influenced Chelsea’s decision to hire him.
Chelsea can eliminate the £325,000-a-week wages of the Belgian by disposing of him.
According to Conte’s statement in a pre-match news conference, Lukaku can make his debut for Napoli in Saturday’s game against Parma.
Lukaku’s exit coincides with Chelsea’s Tino Anjorin’s move to Italy’s Serie A, where he joins Empoli on a three-year agreement.
Chelsea and Al-Ahli from the Saudi Pro League are currently negotiating the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, 25, to help Napoli balance their expenses.
