President Mahama misled on Black Stars budget -Oduro Sarfo

GFA Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo argues that someone has misinformed President John Dramani Mahama regarding his statement on the Black Stars’ budget transparency.
According to Oduro Sarfo’s response, budget accountability for the Black Stars falls under the Ministry of Sports, not the GFA.
President Mahama addressed the nation on February 27, 2025, demanding full transparency from the Ministry of Sports and the GFA regarding government spending on national teams, especially in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
“There will be no secrecy about how much the government spends on the national teams. “The FA and other sports associations must publicly present their budgets,” President Mahama emphasized. “After all, it is taxpayers’ money funding these activities,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to financial accountability.
In an interview on Connect 97.1 FM, Oduro Sarfo countered the President’s statement, claiming the President had misled him. The GFA provides no financial support to the Black Stars. After the FA submits and gets approval for its budget, the Ministry manages all finances.
President Mahama’s vision for Ghana includes financial transparency and a commitment to sports development, particularly through improving community recreation facilities to increase grassroots involvement.
