The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has strongly cautioned betting companies in the country.
According to him, no authorized betting company is allowed to provide odds on Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches.
Okraku highlighted that the GFA’s legal team will be initiating measures against betting companies that persist in featuring GPL matches in their offerings.
This move is considered a vital measure to tackle concerns about match-fixing in the league, which drew attention last season due to questionable match outcomes.
“We have not licensed any betting company to take odds on our games,” Okraku said during the 30th Ordinary Congress in Prampram.
“We are going to empower our legal department to confront this issue head-on. It is not okay for betting companies to feed on our football.”
The President of the GFA clarified that the association is open to forming partnerships with betting companies, but only if they adhere to the appropriate regulations.
He made it clear that GPL matches should not be included in betting markets without the right authorization.
The Okraku-led administration has a strong stance against match-fixing. The demotion of Inter Allies and the indefinite suspension of AshantiGold, both involved in match manipulation, show this clearly.
The organizers have scheduled the start of the new Ghana Premier League season for September 6, which coincides with the 30th Ordinary Congress.
