A road accident involved Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, and his two assistant coaches, John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda.
The accident took place on Sunday on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road, August 31, 2024, as they were heading back to Accra from watching a match between FC Samartex and Nsoatreman.
According to reports, a driver in another car’s reckless driving is what led to the accident.
According to reports, the driver swerved into the lane of the Toyota Landcruiser Prado vehicle that the coach and his passengers were traveling in.
The FA released a statement saying, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform the general public that members of the Black Stars technical team were involved in a road accident earlier today while returning from Tarkwa.”
The team had been on an official assignment, observing the clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC, which was the Champion of Champions match.
The Land Cruiser carrying head coach Otto Addo, assistant coach John Paintsil, and goalkeeper trainer Fatawu Dauda narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a pickup truck that swerved into its lane, resulting in minor damage to the vehicle.
“We are happy to report that all three technical team members are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments, as a precautionary measure, upon their return to Accra,” the FA added.
“We are confident that the technical team will be in good shape and ready to lead the Black Stars in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
It stated, “We appreciate the public’s concern and ask for your continued support and prayers as we get ready for these crucial matches.”
