The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will determine the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz after reviewing his technical report on Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup performance.
The 73-year-old Portuguese coach was appointed on a short-term contract only weeks before the tournament in North America, succeeding Otto Addo.
Despite limited preparation time, Queiroz led the Black Stars to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since their 2010 quarter-final appearance.
Queiroz’s future has been uncertain since Ghana exited the tournament. Some supporters have called for new leadership, while President John Dramani Mahama has publicly supported the former Real Madrid coach to remain in charge.
The final decision rests with the GFA Executive Council, which will review Queiroz’s technical report before making a decision.
Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo confirmed that the report will be central to the association’s deliberations.
“Carlos Queiroz’s future will be decided after the GFA reviews his reports,” Sarfo told Asempa FM.
The Executive Council is scheduled to meet on Friday, July 31, with Queiroz’s report as a key agenda item.
Ghana began their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama, followed by a goalless draw with England. Despite a 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final Group L match, the Black Stars advanced to the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s top third-placed teams.
Their campaign ended in the knockout stage with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
With the World Cup concluded, attention shifts to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers beginning in September. Ghana will compete in Group C with Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Somalia as they aim to return to the continental tournament after missing the previous edition.
