CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has announced a substantial increase in prize money for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the tournament winners set to receive a record $2 million.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Motsepe revealed the enhanced financial package as part of CAF’s continued commitment to advancing women’s football across the continent and rewarding excellence on the pitch.
The latest increase marks the third upward revision of WAFCON prize money in as many years, underscoring CAF’s growing investment in the women’s game and its ambition to boost the competition’s profile, competitiveness and commercial value.
The 2026 WAFCON will be staged in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, with 12 nations competing for Africa’s biggest women’s football prize.
Ghana’s Black Queens will be aiming to secure their maiden continental title after finishing third in the previous edition. They have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde.
The enhanced prize fund is expected to provide an added incentive for the competing nations while reinforcing CAF’s long-term vision of accelerating the growth and professionalisation of women’s football across Africa.
