Germany to hand starting role to Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel against Ghana

Julian Nagelsmann has announced that Alexander Nübel will be Germany’s starting goalkeeper against Ghana in Monday’s pre-2026 FIFA World Cup friendly.

This means the VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper will play at the MHP Arena instead of first-choice Oliver Baumann.

Nagelsmann said Nübel earned the start because of his steady performances for his club. He also pointed out that playing in Stuttgart is like a “home game” for the 29-year-old, who will make his third appearance for Germany.

Nagelsmann made it clear that Baumann is still Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper. He also said the team has good depth and no worries about their goalkeepers.
