George Weah has asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to overturn the controversial decision about the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, saying it hurts African football.
Weah criticized the Confederation of African Football Appeal Board for overturning the original result after Senegal walked off, sparking widespread debate. He said this decision weakens the authority of match officials and sets a bad example.
“This decision has scarred African football and weakened confidence in fairness and integrity,” Weah said. He urged CAS and other authorities to take strong action to prevent the ruling from being upheld.
He also rejected social media claims that he supported CAF’s decision, calling them false and misleading.
The controversy has raised questions about how African football is governed and whether decisions are consistent. Weah’s comments have increased pressure on CAS to review one of the most debated rulings in recent years.
