AFCON 2025: Knockout stage starts with Round of 16 fixtures set

After a thrilling group stage that showcased the passion and talent of African football, the stage is set for the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Each day from January 3 to 6 will feature a double-header of knockout drama, with matches kicking off at 17:00 and 20:00 local time as teams battle for a coveted quarter-final place.

The round of 16 kicks off on Saturday as reigning champions Senegal take on Sudan at the Grand Stade de Tangier, followed by a high-stakes clash between Mali and Tunisia under the Casablanca lights.

On Sunday, January 4, host nation Morocco welcomes Tanzania to the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. Later, all eyes turn to a blockbuster showdown as South Africa meets Cameroon, pitting coach Hugo Broos against the very team he led to glory in 2017.

Monday brings a clash of history and ambition as record champions Egypt face Benin in Agadir, while Nigeria faces Mozambique in Fès. The action wraps up on Tuesday with Algeria battling DR Congo, before Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso close out the round in Marrakech.

The quarterfinals await on January 9 and 10, setting the stage for a grand finale in Rabat on January 18.
