AFCON 2025: Idrissa Gueye advises future hosts to emulate Morocco

Morocco’s organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations earned praise from Senegal’s Idrissa Gueye, who wants other hosts to match their standards.

The Everton midfielder commented on the draw, praising the facilities and tournament setup.

Gueye stated, “Other African Cup of Nations hosts should follow Morocco’s example.”

He also praised the infrastructure and playing conditions, emphasizing their positive impact on the quality of football.

“We should congratulate Morocco for this organization. The facilities are excellent, with amazing stadium grass that enables beautiful football and boosts the tournament’s quality”.

“This is what we will expect from future Africa Cup hosts.”

Gueye was also asked if the 2025 AFCON might be the most challenging ever. However, the 35-year-old thinks it’s premature to conclude that.

“So far we have won one match and got one point against Congo, and we will see the result we achieve in the third match, and then history will tell us if this is the toughest edition of the Africa Cup of Nations,” he explained.

Senegal will face Benin on Tuesday, December 30, in their final group-stage match, hoping to advance to the knockout rounds.
