The Black Queens’ coach is excited for their upcoming first game.

Kim Lars Bjorkegren, the new Black Queens coach, is brimming with confidence before his first match.

Nora Hauptle’s position as head coach of the Black Queens was filled by Kim Lars Bjorkegren on February 14.

Expectations are high for Kim Lars Bjorkegren to guide Ghana to victory in this summer’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

A friendly against the WAFCON hosts, the Lionesses, in Casablanca on February 21st marks the beginning of Morocco’s road to the continental tournament.

The Swede is excited to take on the challenge of filling Nora Hauptle’s shoes and doing well at WAFCON, despite the weight of expectation.

“It is difficult to adapt 100% after a couple of trainings so, of course, we can’t expect them to understand everything in just a couple of session. But they are listening, they are doing their best,” he said.

“I’ve watched them in three four games. I will say it’s a good team, a really good team. In an away game, it’s going to be a tough game, especially for me as a new coach to get a result. A new group of players like i said a couple of trainings but there’s no reason to be talking about excuses. We will do everything we can to win the game,” he added.

Despite three runner-up finishes (1998, 2002, 2006), the Black Queens are still to win the WAFCON.
