Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, owner and financier of Elmina Sharks, slammed the GFA’s leadership for misusing FIFA funds and ignoring clubs and players.
A Facebook post from February 3, 2025, saw a prominent businessman call for significant reform within the association, accusing its leaders of misusing FIFA funds to their benefit while ignoring the needs of clubs, referees, and players.
His frustration boiled over as he questioned the nation’s continued apathy towards the Black Stars’ growing tragedies, bankruptcies, and losses.
“The GFA needs a serious overhaul. A few people at the top feed on FIFA money and leave the clubs, referees, and players hungry. What are we waiting for? More deaths, bankruptcies, and Black Stars losses?” Nduom wrote.
Dr. Nduom also called on Ghanaians to accept that the country’s football leagues are no longer legitimate entertainment platforms.
“When will Ghanaians recognize that our football leagues don’t qualify as entertainment platforms?”
His remarks were prompted by the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a well-known Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan who was also known as Nana Pooley.
Kotoko’s Matchday 19 game against Nsoatreman FC was marred by tragedy when Nana Pooley was murdered by stabbing.
Violence at the Nana Koromansah II Stadium on Sunday, February 2, 2025, caused a fatality.
Although investigations by the GFA and Ghana Police Service are underway, Asante Kotoko has halted all football activities until the culprits are apprehended.
This violent incident is just the latest in a series of problems plaguing the Ghanaian league, which has long faced financial difficulties, security challenges, and questionable officiating.
