Nsoatreman FC suffered a difficult loss at home, falling 2-0 to CS Constantine in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.
The Ghanaian FA Cup champions had a tough time keeping up with their North African opponents during the match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Nsoatreman started the game with potential when Kwabena Adu Meider almost scored an early goal for the home team.
Meider came close to scoring in the 7th minute, but his shot from a good position narrowly missed, causing the home fans to hold their breath.
Nevertheless, CS Constantine swiftly changed the situation in their favor.
In just five minutes, striker Zakaria Benchaa made an outstanding individual play to break the tie.
Benchaa collected the ball from the center circle, skillfully maneuvered past the Nsoatreman defense, and calmly placed the ball into the net, putting the visitors ahead 1-0.
Benchaa still had unfinished work. In the 27th minute, he found the back of the net again, increasing Constantine’s advantage with another composed shot.
Even though Nsoatreman played better in the second half, they were unable to convert several scoring opportunities, leaving them with a tough task ahead.
In the second leg at the Chahid Hamlaoui Stadium next Sunday, Nsoatreman will need to make up a two-goal deficit.
Nsoatreman’s continental aspirations depend on winning the return leg, as it will determine who advances to the group stage of the competition.
