FC Basel’s Jonas Adjetey Adjei replaces Alexander Djiku in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Djiku sustained a thigh injury during a league match for Fenerbahce on Friday, leading coach Otto Addo to select a substitute for the squad.
The Black Stars will welcome the 20-year-old defender for the first time as they gear up for crucial matches against Angola and Niger.
Adjetey, who has been outstanding in the Swiss Super League, commenced his football career at Teshie Football Academy.
Subsequently, he represented Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea before transferring to FC Basel.
Adjei has featured in every Swiss Super League match for Basel this season, making him a consistent presence.
The young defender will join the Black Stars camp on Monday to start preparing for the qualifiers.
Ghana’s upcoming matches include a game against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5, followed by a game against Niger in Berkane, Morocco on September 9.
